I got this article from the Internet. The source was MSNBC and the article was updated on January 24, 2010 at 1:51 a.m. The title is "Fewer teens are in rush to get driver's license" and it was found in the U.S. News section.
This article states that less teens are in a hurry to get their driver's license. Due to more ways of being able to socialize, not many teens make it a top priority. Compared to 44.7% of 16-year-olds that got their driver's licenses in 1988, 30.7% of 16-year-olds got their driver's licenses in 2008. Teens are now so preoccupied with social networking and texting they don't need to drive around to socialize with people. The article also mentioned that it's harder to get a driver's license nowadays. There are more requirements for getting a learner's permit and car insurance and gas prices are higher. However, there are a lot of parents that are relieved that they don't have to worry about irresponsible driving or extra costs.
This article is important to me because it lets me know that getting a driver's license isn't as important as I thought it was. I always thought that I should be getting a license soon just because others brag about getting their license, but then I thought "Wait a minute, I don't need a license. I can just text if I want to talk!". I also think that it's important to parents because it let's them know that their kids aren't as enthusiastic as they thought or that the insurance is really expensive. I don't know what else it could influence, but it seemed like a really interesting article to me (and my mom, who was reading it along with me, ha ha)
